March 22 is World Water Day, which has been celebrated under the United Nations initiative since 1993 to raise awareness of the importance of water resources and the crisis of access to water. This year, special attention will be paid to supporting the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation for all by 2030.” This year the theme of World Water Day 2021 is valuing water.
To celebrate this day, CENN conducted knowledge and awareness-raising online training on WaSH and Climate Change on the following topics: Human Rights in Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WaSH) and Climate Change and Water Access.
In the first part of the training the speaker talked about WASH topics, WASH as human rights, the challenges and the ways to overcome the issues connected to access to the clean water. Second part of training the speaker covered the topics on forest as a water regulatory system, climate change, geological processes and its challenges observed in the basins of Akhmeta Municipality.
The online training was held in an interactive manner where up to 30 participants shared their questions and engaged in the open discussion. We believe that raising youth awareness and empowering future generation is a is a guarantee of a better future.
The training is made possible with the support of the European Union, Austrian Development Cooperation, Global Water Challenge, and Coca-Cola Fund (TTCF), under the framework of CENN’s two projects: “Georgia Climate Action Project (GEO-CAP) Promoting Civil Society Engagement in Climate Change Policy Design and Implementation”, “Sustainable Forest Management for Rural Development”, EU4Youth “Social Entrepreneurship Ecosystem Development (SEED) program for Green Growth in Borderline Communities” and the “Community Action to Improve WASH Services in Vulnerable Rural Communities of Georgia (GEO-WASH)”.
