April 27-29, 2021. Kakheti – We are pleased to announce that CENN in partnership with the partner organizations the Chiatura Union (ACU), the Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti Agrotourism Development Association (RLS-ADA), and the Young Pedagogue’s Union (YPU) has held its first workshop/training in a hybrid format with the Imereti, Guria and Racha-Lechkhumi Region Climate Action Groups (CAGs) in Imereti, Guria and Racha-Lechkhumi under the EU-supported Georgia Climate Program (GEO-CAP).
The main goal of the meeting was to inform the members of the CAGs of the Imereti, Guria, and Racha-Lechkhumi regions and to mobilize around the issue of climate change. Informing the Climate Action Groups will help to increase the level of civil society involvement and activate the issue of climate change in the project target regions.
During the meeting, the Imereti, Guria, and Racha-Lechkhumi CAGs learned detailed information about the goals and future activities of the Georgian Climate Action Program. During the meeting, the Acting Head of the Climate Change Division, Maia Tskhvaradze, conducted a training on the causes of climate change and its consequences and also spoke about the importance and ways of migration and adaptation. Furthermore, Karlo Amirgulashvili, Head of the Primary Structural Unit of the Department of Biodiversity and Forestry, spoke to CAG members about the importance of national and regional platforms and the specifics of their work, using the National Forest Program’s (NFP) experience.
At the end of the meeting, a thematic discussion was held during which representatives of CENN and the Ministry shared information with CAG members about various ongoing initiatives, activities, and current needs in Georgia. The discussion also highlighted the importance and role of CAGs in combating climate change.
CENN, within the framework of the EU-supported GEO-CAP, will continue to actively organize working meetings with CAGs, both in Kakheti and in other target regions of the project. These meetings will contribute to the development of successful working practices between sectors in the field of climate change.
The European Union-supported Georgia Climate Action Program (GEO-CAP) is implemented by CENN together with the Kakheti Regional Development Fund (KRDF), the Chiatura Union (ACU), the Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti Agrotourism Development Association (RLS-ADA), and the Young Pedagogue’s Union (YPU). The target municipalities of the project are Gurjaani, Sagarejo, Akhmeta, Zestaponi, Tkibuli, Chiatura, Lanchkhuti, Ozurgeti, Oni, and Ambrolauri.
