Nana is one of the founders and Executive Director of CENN. She holds an MSc in Environmental Sciences and Policy from the Central European University (CEU), an MSc in Environmental Science and Policy from Manchester University, and an MSc in Biology and Ecology from Tbilisi State University. She has knowledge and experience in environmental policy and management, and 20 years of experience in leading a team. She has led the implementation of a number of national and international projects and participated in many major national and regional assignments providing technical assistance to governments, local authorities, communities, and the private sector in Georgia and the South Caucasus in the fields of sustainable development, environmental protection, climate change, and integrated resources management. What’s most interesting about working with Nana is her enthusiasm for meeting new people, discovering new places and experiences, which is a great motivation for others.
Nino is an environmental scientist with over 15 years of experience in the fields of environment protection, natural resources management, and sustainable development. Nino holds a PhD in chemistry. Her areas of technical expertise include waste management, air and water quality monitoring, and environmental impact assessment. Nino worked at the Tbilisi State Medical University as an Assistant Professor and Head of the University Laboratory. She lectured in chemistry and conducted scientific research in the Department of Biochemistry, has published multiple scientific papers, contributed to methodological issues in inorganic, organic and analytical chemistry, and has developed and holds original patents. Nino has worked at CENN since 2007, leading a number of national and regional programs. Since 2014 Nino has been involved in implementing CENN’s large-scale USAID funded project — Waste Management Technologies in the Regions (WMTR) and in 2016 she became a Chief of Party for the project.
Rezo is a journalist, and prior to joining CENN in 2005, he worked as an investigative journalist focusing on environmental issues and human rights. He was also involved in creating several networking groups, and in community mobilization, public outreach and communications, and policy dialogue issues. Rezo’s work is now connected to forestry policy. After a number of years in the field, he is widely regarded as a forestry expert. Since 2012 he has lead CENN’s ADC supported Sustainable Forest Governance in Georgia program. In 2014, under Rezo’s leadership and initiative, CENN launched the youth competition the Niko Ketskoveli School Awards, which Rezo considers to be the most interesting accomplishment of the team in the field of education. During his free time, Rezo enjoys making wine and even produces his own lines of bio-wine — "Ganskhvavebuli" and "Sheniani".
Nino received a BSC in Arts in Humanities followed by an MSc in Oriental Studies from the Department of Humanities at Tbilisi State University. Nino is a professional Orientalist with 10 years of experience in Orientals, human resource management, and environmental education. She has both scientific and practical knowledge and experience in natural resources management, public environmental education, public relations, community mobilization, human resource management, and communications. She has extensive experience managing projects funded by major multilateral funding agencies and a number of bilateral donors in the fields of natural resources management. Nino enjoys playing the piano and listening classical music, and she also loves travelling.
Nino has 15 years of experience in environmental project management. She holds a Master’s Degree in Psychology from Tbilisi State University. Her first projects were studies in the areas of sociology and environmental impact assessment. Later, she worked in resources management, particularly on forest, land, waste, and water resources management. She works on a wide variety of topics at CENN, including environmental impact assessment, participatory planning, development of policy and strategy documents, public environmental education, raising public awareness, community outreach, stakeholder analysis, and communications. She is presently working for the USAID-funded project Waste Management Technologies in the Regions. In her leisure time, Nino is seeking for distance learning opportunities.
Melano Tkabladze holds a master’s degree in economics from the Business Administration and Economics faculty at Tbilisi State University. Her professional experience covers both the state and private sectors. She is currently working at CENN as a Project Manager in several environmental directions; many projects have been successfully implemented by Melano. Melano also supports local enterprises and activities towards economic growth in Georgia. She always tries to promote and support businesses which have socially responsible and green policies. Melano tries to spend as much of her free time as possible with her children. She especially loves playing tennis and doing a math with her son.
Archil’s life underwent a dramatic transformation after he participated in a student exchange program and graduated from the American High School. He was then admitted to university at the Faculty International Relations and International Law, where he was granted a George Schultz Scholarship and graduated with honours. He has participated in numerous international conferences and youth summits which played a vital role in building his future career. His has a number of years work experience in international organizations, taking overall responsibility for projects, communicating with project partners, monitoring development assistance from donors, and advising on methodologies to achieve program goals and objectives. At CENN, Archil leads the waste tariff policy elaboration team within the USAID supported program, Waste Management Technologies in the Regions.
Nino obtained a Bachelor’s degree in management from the University of Georgia. During her studies, she was actively engaged in non-formal educational activities, founding the university’s Literature Club and co-founding the Public Health youth club. In 2013, her team won the Microsoft Imagine Cup prize for innovative ideas. From the second year of her studies, she gained experience in public health institutions including leading hospitals and NGOs in Georgia. Her first work experience was in the same field, in healthcare management, quality development, and service management projects. From 2016, Nino has continued her studies at Ilia State University at the School of Life Sciences, working towards a Master’s Degree in Natural Resources Management. She enjoys seeking out inspirational environmentalists, lifestyle gurus, and bloggers, and is currently working on building her own bilingual lifestyle blog.
Natalia is a geographer; she obtained her BA and MSc degrees in Human Geography at Tbilisi State University. She later studied at the Department of Geography at the University of Tartu in Estonia and worked at the university LAB studying Information and Communication Technologies in Urban Planning. Natalia is currently continuing her studies as a PhD candidate at the Human Geography department of Tbilisi State University, where she studies the urban revitalization of former industrial sites. As part of her PhD, she also studied at the Sapienza University of Rome at the Department of Urban Planning and Architecture. Her areas of interest include sustainable development and climate change in the context of urbanization. Besides her scientific interests, she works on communications and outreach at CENN. During her free time, she enjoys extreme sports and loves everything connected to winter and snowboarding. She often travels both for studies and pleasure.
Salome Sulaberidze obtained her BA in English Literature at Tbilisi State University, later going on to study Culture and Languages at the University of Tartu, Estonia. In 2016 she graduated with an MA in Film and Photographic Studies at the University of Leiden, in the Netherlands. During her studies at Leiden University, Salome attended the University of Oslo in Norway to study Scandinavian film genres. Currently, Salome studies film directing at the Caucasian School of New Cinema. At CENN she works as a communication and outreach specialist within the second phase of the Waste Management Technology in the Regions program. Salome enjoys managing projects, meeting new people, and sharing experiences. During her free time she likes to write film reviews, practice photography, and discover unusual places.
Vakho holds a Bachelor's Degree in Ecology from Ilia State University. Since 2017 he continues studies at the MSc Program in Ecology at the same university. After volunteering at the NACRES, he joined CENN team first as a trainee and then started working as a GIS specialist. Vakho enjoys creating maps both for work and as his hobby. In his spare time, he likes skiing and hiking
Institutions, the environment, ecosystem services, and the economy are all among Vakho’s areas of interest. Vakho has obtained a Master's Degree in Ecological Economy at the Autonomous University of Barcelona and an MA in European Studies at the International Graduate Center of the Hochschule Bremenand. Vakho has worked on a number of projects and has facilitated CENN’s international and regional work since 2015. Outside of the office, Vakho leads a very active sports life, loves board games, and volunteers at a dog shelter.
Megi’s environmental activities started while she was studying at Napareuli Public School — she was an active member of the school eco club. Later, she participated in an eco-camp in Bulachauri Green Center as part of one of CENN’s project; this was the beginning of the partnership between Megi and our organization. She soon turned her hobby into a career, studying ecology at Ilia State University. After her first academic year she successfully participated in a competition announced by CENN, becoming a volunteer in the Bread for the World’s south-north exchange program. Within the program, she worked with refugee children and youth in Germany. She was also an Erasmus+ exchange student and studied forest management for a semester at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
Ann holds an MSc from the London School of Economics and Political Science (MSc, 2012). Her work at CENN entails areas of policy analysis and guidance to support environmental policy formulation, development of a responsible mining sector, sustainable forest management, climate change, and sustainable transport. Prior to her return to Georgia, Ann worked as a policy research consultant at Gold Mercury International, a London based think tank. She is an author of multiple publications on the environment and development. During her spare time, she enjoys swimming, going to the gym, and listening to live music.
Dr. Janelidze has been a member of CENN’s team for 15 years. He is a Geographer with 60 years of experience in the field, holding a PhD from Tbilisi State University. He has authored three monographs and over 100 scientific papers. His research interests include physical geography, geomorphology, palaeogeography, and environmental issues. Dr. Janelidze has taught at several higher education institutions in Georgia for almost 30 years. At CENN, Dr. Janelidze is involved in each of CENN’s thematic directions, including — environmental protection, sustainable development, climate change, and resource management. He is also involved in the educational activities of our organization, and frequently delivers lectures to young environmentalists. In his spare time, Dr. Janelidze is busy studding different environmental issues, specifically global warming, together with members of his family, who are also geographers. It has to be noted that it’s a very rare to meet a whole family of geographers in Georgia.
Kakha obtained both his BA (2000) and MSc (2002) degrees in Environmental Science and Natural Resource management from the Georgian Technical University. He then obtained a PhD in Chemistry from Tbilisi State University. Kakha has extensive experience working in environmental protection. His work involves communication with private and state institutions, and he has experience in drafting legislation. He has participated in developing national environmental reports and action plans and has undertaken training in environmental protection and safety in various countries. He has experience in both development and expert evaluation of environmental impact assessment reports and environmental audits for companies operating in various areas. He also has experience in developing and implementing the Waste Management Code, Initial Waste Management Inventory Documents, and Waste Management Plans.
After finishing Tbilisi’s Third Gymnasium in 2006, Giorgi continued his studies at Tbilisi State University, gaining a bachelor’s degree in Finance. At the same time, he was successfully engaged in several start-ups with his friends. He has always had an interest in Geography, and gained a master’s degree from Tbilisi State University in 2012. Giorgi now works at CENN providing technical support in every project.
Shorena is educated as both an engineer and ecologist, graduating from the Faculty of Ecology and Natural Resource Protection at the Georgian Technical University. Shorena works as an administrative and financial specialist. She has a number of years work experience at national and international private companies and on international projects, including programs supported by the donors like — USAID, UNICEF, UNDP, WHO, PwC. At CENN, Shorena works on the USAID supported Waste Management Technologies in the Regions program. She has various creative interests to which she devotes most of her free time, including cooking, knitting and sewing, sculpting, gardening, and most importantly — reusing old objects and giving them a new life, which is thematically connected to her work at CENN too.
Mariam is a professional in finance. She graduated from the Faculty of Economics at Tbilisi State University. She has more than 15 years of experience working in both the public and private sectors; she has worked at the National Environmental Agency and several private companies. She is now the Financial Manager at CENN. Maka devotes her free time to her main hobby — cooking — and often conducts culinary experiments. She also enjoys spending time with family and organizing outdoor picnics.
Ekaterine is an international economics relations specialist. She has over 20 years of work experience both in the public and private sectors, and has received numerous national certificates in her field. Ekaterine is a Chief Accountant at CENN, successfully leading organizational accounting activities both inside CENN and with governmental institutions. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family and loves treating family and friends with surprise presents.
Ketevan is a professional in finance. She graduated from the Faculty of Economics and Business at Tbilisi State University and is currently studying a Master’s of Business Administration at the same university. Ketevan has 5 years of experience in the field of finance. She has been working in CENN for 2 years as a finance and administrative officer. Keti’s main hobby is travelling and tasting new food. She loves music and devotes most of her time to it.
Roni graduated from ISET (International School of Economics at TSU) with a master’s in economics and also holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Tbilisi State University. He has experience working in various governmental institutions, particularly in the energy sector, and performance and environmental audits. He currently works at CENN as a private sector development specialist in the field of waste management. His interests include modern technologies, ecology, and energy economics. During his free time he enjoys studying history and world politics.
In 2011, Keti finished secondary school in her hometown and moved to Tbilisi. Since then she has devoted 6 years to studying economics while familiarizing herself with the functions and operations of government through internships in the Ministry of Economics, Finance and the National Bank of Georgia. She has been working in CENN since obtaining her master’s degree in economics and teaches at the International School of Economics at Tbilisi State University, ISET. Currently, she works on the USAID funded Waste Management Technologies in the Regions project. Her activities as secretary of association involve business development and creating a business-friendly environment in Georgia’s waste management sector. In addition, she is interested in computer programming and studies data visualization.
Mariam Terterashvili is second-year BA student of sociology at Ilia State University. She successfully completed the Future Leaders Exchange Program (FLEX) in 2016. From this experience, she learned efficiency, communication, and the value of volunteer work. Inspired by this international experience, Mariam is interning at CENN for the USAID supported Waste Management Technologies in the Regions project. During her free time, she enjoys hiking, taking pictures, listening to music, and writing poetry.
Levan holds a Master’s degree in physics from Tbilisi State University, Georgia. He completed an individual study programme in Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation at the University of Twente (ITC, Netherlands). In 2010–2013 he was involved in MATRA (the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs) project — Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR). He is a PhD student at the School of Natural Sciences and Engineering at Ilia State University. Besides his interests in computer technology, programming, and Geo-Information Systems (GIS), in his spare time, Levan enjoys agriculture, reading, and travelling.
Misha is a professional in sports medicine. He obtained his BA in Sports Medicine from the Academy of physical and sports development. He has certificates in primary emergency assistance and treatment rehabilitation massage. In line with his studies, he was a professional rugby player and a two-time gold medalist. He has worked in Poland in the successful Pogoni sports club. After returning to Georgia, he has worked at the Old Tbilisi District Administration, in the department of infrastructure. In 2014 he joined the CENN team and is involved in project logistics. In his free time, he still enjoys sports, hiking, and fishing.
Laurent is a Swiss chemical engineer and health and safety engineer. He first arrived in Georgia in 1993, he accompanied the first steps of CENN back in 1998, has been one of the organization’s founders and is involved as a consultant on strategic organizational issues. During the past thirty years of his career, Laurent has acquired an extensive experience in the field of the environment around the world.
Giorgi has been a member of CENN team for more than 10 years. He studied at the Faculty of International Law and International Relations of Tbilisi State University, majoring in International Relations. Presently he is studying at Kachreti Public College Aisi to master forestry. His scope of activity at CENN includes aspects of studying sustainable forest management, eco-migration and natural disasters on a regional level. He also has experience of work at Information Centre of Mtskheta-Mtianeti and Human Rights Centre. Giorgi is actively involved in summer activities of the organization where he helps youths in development of hiking skills.
Irakli has been CENN team member since 2013. He holds an academic degree of a Doctor of Biology in Plant Ecomorphology at Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University, is an author of numerous scientific articles and has more than 15 years’ experience in the field. His scope of activity includes biogeography, plant ecology, conservation, spread and invasion of uncommon plants. He has been working for 10 years at Tbilisi Botanical Garden and is currently a researcher at Batumi State University and is studying invading plants spread at the Black Sea Coast. Irakli is CENN Project Coordinator in Adjara Region and mainly works on the project related to sustainable forest governance. Besides, Irakli is actively involved and coordinates Niko Ketskhoveli school competition in the schools of Adjara and Guria regions and implements expert activities related to environment.
Jaba graduated from the faculty of ecology at the Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University and pursued the master’s degree from the same university. In 2014 he worked as the representative of the governor of Keda Municipality in the Merisi village. Since 2011 Jaba joined CENN team and is representing our organization in Adjara A/R. Jaba also works as a biology teacher at the public school in the mountainous village Merisi and is actively involved in the local initiatives aiming at youth engagement.
Tamar has Master’s degree in English language. She teaches English at Samtskhe-Javakheti State University. She has 15-years’ experience of working at international and local non-governmental organizations. She has worked for educational, regional and agriculture development and environmental projects. She is a founder of a local NGO working on youth-related problems. She is also the Head of the Akhaltsikhe Adults’ Education Center.
Mariko’s activities at CENN include numerous areas – cooperation with central and regional media, planning media tours and trainings and seminars for journalists, development of eco-hubs for environmental awareness-raising purposes in the regions, mobilization of local communities and analysis and communication of stakeholder issues. Mariko has graduated from TV and Radio Journalism Faculty of Tbilisi I. Javakhishvili State University. For several years, she was actively working in regional media, was a regional correspondent, then a leader of information division and finally, Kvemo Kartli Media Group Director. Later she moved from regional to central media. She passed several certification courses in conflict management in Karabagh and Kosovo. Presently she works for several CENN projects: Sustainable Forest Governance in Georgia and GC-WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) Community Initiative. She spends he leisure time with her only daughter – Nita and is interested in online opportunities for learning foreign languages and the architecture of big cities.
Kakha is a historian by profession and has been actively involved in scientific activity since his student years. He participated in scientific conferences, political science being his focus area. In addition to University, Kakha also passed a training course at Z. Zhvania State Administration School, Multiparty Democracy School of Netherlands as well as Environmental Information and Education Center. He is a certified environmental manager. Prior to employment at CENN Kakha worked at various governmental agencies of Adjara AR. He worked as a Head of Department of Refugees and Accommodation and as First Deputy Head of Division of Environment and Natural Resources Protection – Coordinator of Forestry and Biodiversity in the Region. He also worked in Batumi Boulevard Administration and served as the Director of Batumi Urban Greening and Spatial Planning Service. His activities at CENN are mainly linked with waste management sector. In his leisure time Kakha enjoys reading and researching philosophical literature and scientific literature related to philosophy. He likes travel and thoroughly studies environmental issues. He is known in the region as an expert in environmental and waste management issues because of his experience.
Maia has been working as a Regional Coordinator for CENN project, Sustainable Forest Governance in Georgia since 2012. Maia has graduated from Natural Sciences and Geography Department of Kutaisi Akaki Tsereteli State University majoring in Biology and Chemistry. She has passed a series of trainings in project management, basics of humanitarian practice and community development. She is a member of an editorial-and-consulting group of a book, Community Development Aspects. She participated in a sustainable forest governance study tour to Austria and many other trainings and seminars. She believes that raising awareness of schoolchildren in environmental field and ensuring their involvement in youth activities of the organizations has been the most successful part of her work.
Kakha has been actively involved in environmental field for more than 18 years. After graduation from Telavi I. Gogebashvili State University majoring in Geography and Biology he volunteered in a local environmental organization. In 2007-2009 Kakha worked as a volunteer in CENN and since 2009 he has been its local coordinator in Kakheti Region. Kakha has passed various training courses in US, Germany and Austria in different years. Kakha has worked as a natural resources specialist in the administration of Batsara-Babanauri Protected Areas for years. His professional interests include both academic and scientific areas like plant diversity, plant ecology, aspects of plant endemism as well as problematic areas of environment such as sustainable forest governance, waste management and re-use of waste as an important resource.
Maia has been CENN employee since 2011. She is a teacher by profession. She also holds a Master’s degree in Law and Social Sciences. She has passed training at Caucasus University in sociology and communication. She works both in the University and at school and conducts trainings in sociology. Maia’s area of interest is tourism. She is a founder of Agritourism Association “Korena and is involved in development of eco-tourism in Imereti Region. She also actively works with youth and provides mentorship to the in that regard.
Irma Kitriashvili is an economist by profession. She has graduated from Tbilisi Scientific Institute of Labour and Manufacturing Process Management and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Manufacturing Process and Organization Management. She is a graduate of Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy (NIMD). Irma has been working as a journalist for various media organizations since 2002 and presently is a correspondent of Shida Kartli Information Centre Qartli.Ge. Irma has authored a number of articles and footages on the environment. That’s how she started to cooperate with CENN. In 2015, she already became a part of CENN team. Her first project was about supporting environmental and social responsibility in the mining area. Irma is a delegate of 2011 of Open World, a program of American Councils for International Education. During her visit to the USA she learned about the principles of the introduction of proper waste management. Nowadays she works for Waste Management Technology in Regions (WMTR), an ongoing USAID-funded project implemented by CENN.
Shota is a graduate from the faculty of history at the Tbilisi State University. After his very active life in the public sector for almost decade, in 2010 he was elected as a chairman of the association of “Union of the Chiaturians” that mainly works in the environmental, educational and human rights sectors. His active interest and willingness to be a change-maker in the environmental sector determined his first cooperation with CENN back in 2012. His activities were mostly related to the field of natural resource management, development and promotion of environmental and social responsibility in the different sectors.
