Did you know that climate change strongly affects mountainous landscapes, such as the Bakhmaro resort zone?
According to the government of Georgia, Bakhmaro will be transformed into a ski resort destination. However, there has not been any assessments conducted regarding the impact of climate change in this region, especially on rather important components such as precipitation distribution and snow cover.
It is important to anticipate all possible risks, including the above mentioned rainfall, before developing a resort development plan. Therefore, it is necessary to pre-assess and study the impact of climate change on the resort of Bakhmaro.
CENN, with the support of the British Embassy, started a project Climate change impact on the Bakhmaro resort zone, which aims to study the climate of the Bakhmaro resort zone and assess the existing climate parameters, determine the impact of climate change and issue recommendations on resilient adaptation.
The project will carry out hydrological and climate change assessments to identify potential issues for concern and the preparation of comprehensive Assessment Reports for the scientific, technical and socio-economic knowledge on climate change, its impact on the Bakhmaro community. In addition to that, the project will advance the implementation of policy measures to take appropriate policy measures to enhance climate change mitigation and water degradation at the local level.
