The European Union (EU) and Georgia have had a long-standing relationship aimed at closer political association and economic integration, especially since the EU and Georgia signed an Association Agreement in 2014.
The EU is Georgia’s largest donor and provides around €85 million of grant money annually. European Union investment and financial support aid Georgia in fostering sustainable development, facilitating green and digital transitions, and promoting regional integration.
Joining the EU opens avenues for increased foreign direct investment, the promise of sustained economic growth, as well as provides citizens with enhanced economic, social, and political opportunities to establish high standards of living, the equivalent of those enjoyed by EU citizens.
Formal EU accession will instigate widespread reforms and unlock economic benefits through financial instruments and heightened foreign investment.
