Sustainable Resource Management

Guidebook for young people

These guidelines on green transition include informational and educational materials designed for young people, students, teachers, and anyone interested in Sustainable Resource Management, the rational use of natural resources and their preservation for future generations.

The publication offers a comprehensive overview of sustainable resource management. Readers will learn about the concept of sustainability – environmental, social, and economic, and how these three dimensions interact.

The document provides detailed coverage of the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and their connection to resource management. The publication describes ecosystems and natural cycles, including types of ecosystem services (provisioning, regulating, supporting, and cultural) and key nutrient cycles such as carbon, nitrogen, and water cycles.

Special attention is devoted to human impact on the environment- ecological footprints, unsustainable resource use, and the effects of climate change. Readers will also learn about the core principles of sustainable resource management: efficiency, equity, renewability, precaution, and adaptability.

These guidelines were prepared by CENN with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Government of Denmark. Its contents are the sole responsibility of CENN and do not necessarily reflect the views of UNDP or the Government of Denmark.
