We are pleased to share the key outcomes of the project “End Plastic Pollution in Georgia,” implemented by CENN and supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Norway.
One-year initiative aimed to reduce plastic waste and raise awareness about circular models, which included building the capacity of stakeholders, raising public awareness, and promoting the implementation of sustainable practices in Georgia.
The project included a variety of activities aimed at sharing practical knowledge and effective methods. A number of informational meetings were held with the involvement of international experts, in which both businesses and public organizations participated, including representatives of the HORECA (hotels, restaurants, cafes) sector, manufacturers, and other stakeholders. The main goal of these activities was to share existing sustainability practices and experiences in order to promote the implementation of circular economy practices in various organizations.
One of the important components of the project was a business campaign, within the framework of which ten businesses were united, and each of them, based on individual mentoring, made significant changes in their institutions in terms of reducing plastic waste.
In addition, a number of educational activities were carried out within the framework of the project, involving young people. Competitions, trainings, quizzes, and thematic events were held in schools, focusing on reducing waste and encouraging sustainable consumption. For the same purpose, the Bulachauri Green Center hosted 50 schoolchildren from the regions of Georgia, where thematic trainings on environmental issues were conducted by field specialists. Schoolchildren achieved impressive results, and innovative initiatives were implemented based on these activities.
At the end of the project, a multi-sectoral meeting was held, where leading actors involved in the value chain discussed their activities and assessed the level of circularity in the sector. In addition, the participants of the event discussed the challenges related to plastic consumption in different sectors and possible solutions, which contributed to the establishment of future cooperation between companies.
The multi-sectoral meeting helped the participants summarize the results of the project and develop the necessary visions for planning future initiatives.
The project “End Plastic Pollution” was implemented by CENN with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Norway as part of the larger UNDP and Norway’s “Leadership, Equality, Advocacy, Democracy” (LEAD) program.
