The youth in Ozurgeti, as part of the ‘Ekoskhivi’ project conducted by young environmentalists in the Ozurgeti Municipality, took significant steps to promote energy efficiency. The primary goal of the project and its team members was to increase awareness about electricity conservation and the judicious utilization of solar energy.
Initiating the project during the Climate Change thematic camp, which was supported by CENN and the EU, the young activists promptly implemented their plans following the camp’s conclusion. Collaborating with various entities, including schools in Ozurgeti, the non-governmental organization “Young Teachers’ Union,” the leadership school, and the city hall, the project gained comprehensive support.
The youth successfully installed solar chargers capable of powering mobile phones and other electronic devices. The groundwork for this initiative was laid during the thematic camp, and it culminated in the installation of chargers and information banners in the tented garden of Ozurgeti. An opening event was held to introduce residents to the rules for using Helio chargers.
To supplement the project, an information campaign on renewable energy and energy efficiency was conducted. Project participants engaged with the local city hall and reached out to the company producing solar chargers. The collaborative efforts of the youth and various stakeholders underscored the commitment to sustainable practices in Ozurgeti.
Expressing their aspirations for the future, Mariam Totochava, one of the project’s implementers, stated, “We aim to participate in more projects promoting eco-friendly devices in our region. Striving for our region to become a leader in this direction, we endeavor to utilize our resources as judiciously as possible.”
