From November 2-3, 2021, CENN, in cooperation with GIZ, conducted trainings for teachers on Sustainable Forest Management and Renewable Energy in Akhmeta municipality, Kakheti region.
Within the project Towards a Green Future: Youth for Forests, a guide on modern energy technologies and methods and its connection to the preservation of unique natural ecosystems was developed.
Specialists in energy, forestry and education provided the participants with presentations and support materials for the non-formal learning module that will be introduced in Akhmeta public schools this year.During the training, the teachers had the opportunity to get acquainted with the following issues:
- The role of the forest and its evolution in the environmental balance;
- Solid biomass and its energy potential in Georgia;
- Energy plantations, brownfields, blackfields and their remediation into greenfields;
- Solar energy and energy efficiency;
- Energy efficient technology zoning and green solutions;
- Green principles in traditional Georgian architecture.
Additional sessions were dedicated to the Niko Ketskhoveli School Award and the expert and technical support of eco-clubs in the field of green energy. CENN has also introduced a rural energy solution ideas competition for young people aged 16-29, sponsored by the School of Green Economics.
The project is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) program “Natural Resource Management and Ecosystem Services for Sustainable Rural Development in the South Caucasus” (ECOserve). Initiatives are being implemented within the scope of the CENN project – Promoting Sustainable Forest Management for Rural Development, with financial support from Austrian Development Cooperation.
