April 16, 2021. Kakheti – We are pleased to announce that CENN together with Kakheti Regional Development Fund (KRDF) has held its first workshop/training at KRDF Kakheti climate hub with the Kakheti Region Climate Action Group (CAG) under the EU-supported Georgia Climate Program (GEO-CAP). Strengthening the role of civil society in the climate change sector, promoting participatory processes, and building trust and cooperation between state and civil society organizations are crucial. That is why the main goal of the meeting was to inform the members of the CAG of the Kakheti region and to mobilize around the issue of climate change, which in the future will contribute to the effective involvement of the civil sector in climate change processes.
During the meeting, the Kakheti Region Climate Action Group learned in detail about the goals and future activities of the Georgian Climate Action Program. During the meeting, Karlo Amirgulashvili, Head of the Primary Structural Unit of the Department of Biodiversity and Forestry, spoke to CAG members about the importance of national and regional platforms and the specifics of their work, using the National Forest Program’s (NFP) experience. Besides, during the meeting, the Acting Head of the Climate Change Division, Maia Tskhvaradze, conducted a training on the causes of climate change and its consequences.
At the end of the meeting, a thematic discussion was held during which representatives of CENN and the Ministry shared information with CAG members about various ongoing initiatives, activities, and existing needs in Georgia. The project team also informed CAG members about the upcoming activities planned under the project.
CENN, within the framework of the EU-supported GEO-CAP, will continue to actively organize working meetings with CAGs, both in Kakheti and in other target regions of the project. These meetings will contribute to the development of successful working practices between sectors in the field of climate change.
The European Union-supported Georgia Climate Action Program (GEO-CAP) is implemented by CENN together with the Kakheti Regional Development Fund (KRDF), the Chiatura Union (ACU), the Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti Agrotourism Development Association (RLS-ADA), and the Young Pedagogue’s Union (YPU). The target municipalities of the project are Gurjaani, Sagarejo, Akhmeta, Zestaponi, Tkibuli, Chiatura, Lanchkhuti, Ozurgeti, Oni, and Ambrolauri.
