On December 20, organized by CENN with the support of the European Union, within the framework of the project “Georgian Climate Action Program (GEO-CAP)”, a steering committee meeting of the project was held.
The aim of the meeting was to present the results of the youth initiatives and grant competitions implemented within the framework of the project to the stakeholder parties and familiarize them with future activities. The meeting was attended by more than 60 people from all four target regions of the project. Among them were members of the advisory board, participants of the project grant competition, active young people, local representatives of the civil development sector and central non-governmental and governmental organizations.
The first panel discussion of the meeting was devoted to youth initiatives, and the second to the winning pilot projects of the grant competition in the target regions of the project. Within the framework of panel discussions, the activists directly involved in the initiatives introduced the activities carried out in their communities to the attending public and received questions and advice on the issues of the future development of the initiatives.
The event was opened with a welcome speech by Alexander Darras from the EU Delegation in Georgia, Maya Javakhishvili from the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture and Nino Tevzadze, the project manager.
“EU is a global leader in fighting climate change and we are happy to do so with our partner organizations from the neighbourhood and associating countries like Georgia. Georgia Climate Action Program is a good project which has the power to create linkages between high-level policy and local initiatives and vice versa. National Climate Platform is a unique tool, which was created by the project and is being used to ensure the participation of different stakeholders in the climate action,” said Alexandre Darras, Attaché, Team Leader Connectivity, Energy, Environment & Climate change at the delegation of the European Union to Georgia during his welcome speech.
“As you know, climate change is very important both globally and for Georgia. Accordingly, we have a clearly defined policy, and strategic documents in this direction, and your involvement and participation are of crucial importance for the effective implementation of our set goals. This platform was formed for this very purpose and it promotes coordination between the parties involved in the climate change process in the country,” said Maya Javakhishvili from the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture.
The event was organized within the EU-funded project “Georgia Climate Action Project (GEO-CAP): Promoting Civil Society Engagement in Climate Change Policy Design and Implementation”, which is being implemented by CENN with its partner organizations KRDF, ACU, YPU, and RLS-ADA. The project targets 4 regions in Georgia: Guria, Imereti, Kakheti, and Racha-Lechkhumi and Lower Svaneti.
