CENN, with the financial support of the Austrian Development Cooperation, hosted the final event of the Niko Ketskhoveli School Award youth environmental competition.
42 school eco-clubs from Georgia presented important environmental and social activities implemented in their cities and villages over the past year to jury members and the audience.
The winners of the competition are:
1st place – Tskaltubo Theological Gymnasium named after Bishop Gabriel
2nd place – Rustavi Public School #14
3rd place – Gori Public School #1 named after Nikoloz (Niko) Ketskhoveli.
The winning schools will be given financial awards to improve their school environments:
1st place winner – 5,000 GEL
2nd place winner – 4,000 GEL
3rd place winner – 3,000 GE
Furthermore, competition partners announced their chosen eco-clubs and awarded them with special prizes:
The National Forest Agency’s nominee was the Public School of Chkhoria village in the Zugdidi municipality.
The Green Award by the Environmental Information and Education Centre was awarded to Medea Obolodze, a teacher from Village Naruja Public School. The centre also revealed its favourite eco-speaker: Elene Iashvili, the Kutaisi #21 Public School leader.
CENN, in addition to recognizing the winners, also selected six eco-clubs to receive 200 GEL Biblus gift vouchers as awards – School #15 of Abkhazia, Kuchatani village public school of Kvareli municipality, Merisi village public school of Keda municipality, Likhauri village public school of Ozurgeti municipality, Tbilisi public school #106, Shamgona village public school of Zugdidi municipality.
During the opening, speeches were given by: Laurent G. NICOLE – Executive Director, CENN; Natia Iordanishvili – Deputy Head of the National Forestry Agency; Tamar Aladashvili – Director of Environmental Information and Education Centre;
At the final meeting, the members of the jury were presented and the participants were evaluated by:

Lado Apkhazava – Ambassador of the Niko Ketskhoveli School Award and Teacher of the Year (2019);
Mariam Bikashvili – Biodiversity and Forest Department at the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia;
