CENN, with the support of the German Government and in cooperation with the local governments of 5 target municipalities (Kutaisi, Zugdidi, Batumi, Telavi, Rustavi), implemented public awareness-raising campaigns on the importance of SDGs localisation.
Public awareness-raising campaigns included thematic workshops for school and university students and joint meetings with local actors (city halls, CSOs, media, academia, and the business sector).
In the frame of the campaigns, up to 250 young people and civil society representatives gained an understanding of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), their role, and opportunities to engage in the sustainable development of their cities. Participants also met representatives of various sectors, got acquainted with the ongoing processes toward implementation of SDGs in municipalities, and developed SDG partnership maps by themselves.
Public awareness campaigns were held within the “Continued Nationalisation of SDGs in Georgia” project, which aims to jumpstart SDG implementation, continue the nationalisation of new targets and commence the localisation of SDGs in Georgia. The program is financed by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
By strengthening the capacity of the SDG Council’s Secretariat, the thematic Working Groups and non-state stakeholders, the project supports the development of institutions that will ensure the long-term sustainability of the steps taken by the country toward the Sustainable Development Goals; thus, it contributes to the country’s sustainable development.
