Seeds of change: Intersectional Green Feminism and Youth Activism in Georgia
Duration: 01.09.2023 – 01.09.2024
Geographic area: Nationalwide
Implemented by: Mellemfolkeligt Samvirke/ActionAid Denmark, CENN, GrlzWave
Donor: New Democracy Fund (NDF)
Russian occupation, violence against women and minorities, and political attacks on civil society leads to severe “brain drain” among youth in Georgia – also leaving little room for green agendas like climate action. This project will strengthen and build up youth spaces for organising in a collaboration between ActionAid Denmark (Mellemfolkeligt Samvirke) and two leading Georgian organisations on climate and environment (CENN), and feminism and queer rights (GrlzWave) with a view to strengthen youth agendas in 2024 elections. The project will support intersectional organising for change anchored under the AADK-hosted Global Platforms network. This will connect Georgian partners and youth with thousands of activists in Denmark and worldwide to strengthen and sustain engagement beyond the project period.
The purpose of the project is to create an enabling and safe environment for young people to organise for change in Georgia. This is done by bringing together green and feminist organisations to host youth spaces for activism in an international collaboration that links them to the Global Platforms (GP) network for youth-led activism and brings in best practices from Danish and global civil society. Particularly the collaboration will focus on youth engagement in 2024 elections on youth green and feminist priorities. The project also acts as starting point for collaborations between Georgian and Danish youth and allows young people around the world to learn from Georgian youth, activists and organisations through the GP network.
Women and Youth Empowerment / Good Governance
As part of the collaboration Georgian partners will also be supported to develop a campaign that supports green and feminist youth influence in election campaigns. If successful this campaign will have motivated young (and older) people in Georgia to vote for politicians who pledge to take feminist and green agendas seriously.
