From 8-14 January 2019 beneficiary school students from the Kakheti and Kvemo Kartli regions undertook extensive winter camp about a number of issues that benefit their future work in WASH. The event took place at Bulachauri Green Centre. The training included the topics which would increase their capacity and knowledge to effectively operate in the water and sanitation field and enable them to swiftly carry out projects in a way that would meet the WASH standards that are lacking in their respective municipalities and give participants the skills to lobby their interests in their regions. More precisely, the training included the following topics:
- WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene)
- WASH and Human Rights
- Project Management The format of the training was interactive and correspond with the pilot projects are carried out.
Furthermore, participants had an opportunity to work together, get to know each other, and develop joint cross-cutting ideas in order to form the basis for future partnership and cooperation. Beside the academic part, the participants were actively involved in different educational and fun activities, which were focused on the improvement of teamwork and communication skills.
On 11th of January, 2019 the camp participants visited LTD. “Georgian Water and Power” (GWP), which is a leading company on the water supply market of Georgia and South Caucasus. The company provides high-quality service to the population of Tbilisi, as well as to state organizations, industrial and commercial objects. In the framework of the field trip, the camp participants were guided by the representatives of the company. Accordingly, the participants became aware of the technical operation of the company how to provide access to the clean drinking water of the population. At the end of the training, the participants were awarded with certificates to highlight their involvement in the camp, received USB flash drives that contained all the presentations and literature on every topic, multi-usable BPA free water bottles and branded hoodies designed specifically for them.
The camp was organized by CENN within the framework of the following projects: “Water for the Poor” and “Georgia Community WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) Initiative”. The main objectives of the projects are to promote health care and suitable living conditions for socially vulnerable communities, prevent discrimination, provide access to water, and establish WASH standards by engaging respective stakeholders. The project, “Water for the Poor,” is implemented by CENN and financially supported by the EU. The project, “Georgia Community WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) Initiative,” is implemented by CENN with support from the Global Water Challenge and The Coca-Cola Foundation (TCCF).
