As part of the EU-funded ‘Circular Cities and Regions in Georgia’ project and in the context of the EU Green Diplomacy Weeks, CENN hosted a culinary masterclass dedicated to sustainable cooking and reducing food waste. The event took place in partnership with the ‘New Wave’ College in Kobuleti and the Batumi Hilton hotel. The masterclass was organised on 29 September 2025, which is the International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste.

Led by the Executive Chef at the Hilton Batumi, the masterclass introduced culinary students to practical and creative ways to minimise food waste in everyday cooking. Participants explored the importance of reducing food waste both globally and locally, and learned how to apply these principles in practice. They learnt how to transform leftover bread into crunchy chips, use herb stems and greens to prepare fresh pesto, and turn fruit and vegetable scraps into delicious new dishes.
After the practical session, CENN held a one-hour discussion on climate change and food waste, highlighting the importance of reducing food loss and waste.
More than 30 students from the New Wave College culinary programme attended the event, gaining both theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience. This initiative emphasised the importance of sustainable consumption and circular practices, as well as reducing food waste at a community level. It also demonstrated how individual actions in the kitchen can contribute to achieving global sustainability goals.
About the project
The EU-funded four-year initiative “Circular Cities and Regions in Georgia: Building Local Capacities to Advance Waste Prevention and Circular Economy in the Regions of Georgia” is implemented by CENN in partnership with ICLEI Europe. This initiative aims to foster a more inclusive, sustainable, and environmentally resilient future for Georgia by promoting resource efficiency, sustainable consumption, and production practices, while significantly reducing waste generation in the Kakheti region and the Adjara Autonomous Republic (AR).
