15 young members of the volunteer group participated in the ecotour and visited the surrounding areas of Tkibuli to study the environmental challenges on the spot.
The young people visited the new road built from the entrance of Tkibuli, on which heavy-duty, coal-carrying vehicles move. The mentioned highway runs along the “Tkibula” river, in the territory of the former “Saknakshiri” business yard, where a coal waste dump is currently arranged.
Also, during the ecotour, the members of the group visited the coal industrial waste dump, studied the current situation, and identified environmental problems – illegal landfills set up by the population, and industrial waste dumps that are very close to the population and pose a threat to their health. Also, in the vicinity of the central enrichment factory, the facts of river pollution from production waste and others.
As a result of the ecotour, volunteers together with the project team will discuss and outline ways to solve the identified problems and will prepare a letter to the City Hall of Tkibuli Municipality.
Youth initiatives are implemented within the framework of the grant project “Promoting the use of solar energy in Tkibuli Municipality” funded by the European Union and CENN. The grant competition in the Imereti region is led by the Union of Scientists of the Imereti Region “Spectri” and the “Tkibuli District Development Fund”.
