The Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, with the support of the European Union and KfW development bank and in partnership with the German independent energy consulting company GOPA intec hosted a large-scale public event, “Georgia’s Sustainable Energy Day” as part of the Georgian Energy Sector Reform Project (GESRP) project. The event was supported by CENN and the Tbilisi City Hall.
The event aimed to encourage Georgia’s development of a green economy, promote energy efficiency and raise public awareness of alternative and renewable energy. To do so, the event offered an exhibition of energy-efficient technologies, educational seminars and different entertainment programmes.
Representatives of different state authorities, the private sector, international institutions and donor organisations, school students, teachers, and other interested individuals participated in the half-day event.
The public event was opened with welcoming remarks provided by Romeo Mikautadze, First Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Borko Raicevic, Senior Energy Efficiency Expert at the Energy Community Secretariat, Mzia Giorgobiani, Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia and Ekaterine Guntsadze, Deputy Minister of Finance of Georgia.
After the welcome speeches, an award ceremony for the “Make Your School More Energy Efficient” competition took place at Dedaena Park. 3 winning schools from Tbilisi were awarded by the GESRP project with certificates and cash vouchers to purchase energy-efficient technologies for their school building.
From 15:00 to 18:30, different educational zones provided entertainment and fun activities for children that piqued their curiosity and fostered knowledge of sustainability, engaged with interactive exhibits highlighting the advantages of energy conservation, and indulged in activities promoting awareness of renewable energy sources.
Besides kids’ zones, 14 companies presented their energy-efficient and renewable technologies at the booths in Dedaena Park. Products and services displayed within the exhibition covered solar panels, e-mobiles, EE stoves, briquettes, consulting services and granting opportunities.
In general, the event showed useful energy efficiency solutions and acted as a forum for education, awareness, and inspiration towards a more sustainable future through the outdoor exhibition, educational seminars, and the specially curated Kids Zone.
The event was hosted by singer and TV host Elene Kalandadze. The guests had the opportunity to enjoy the music selected by the musician and composer, Erekle Getsadze, throughout the day, and at the end of the event, attend a musical concert performed by local band 4D Monster Lobsters.
