CENN with support from UNDP and Norway and in partnership with the MEPA is implementing a project End Plastic Pollution in Georgia. Within the project, CENN is launching a school challenge SOS Plastic to encourage schools and pupils to end the consumption of single-use plastics.
The 3-month campaign will help schools understand their plastic footprint, and find realistic paths and sustainable options to reduce consumption of single-use plastics. It will also help raise awareness and change behaviour among pupils and teachers about sustainable consumption.
Stage 1: submission of applications
Submission of applications including description of planned activities. Please download the template to showcase your planned activities here.
Once you are done, register your initiatives here.
Stage 2: selection of schools and conducting trainings
20 schools will be selected and they will undergo the following training:
- Plastic pollution, alternatives, and waste management for pupils and teachers;
- Auditing the school’s plastic footprint (the pupils and teachers will be given an audit toolkit to identify all single-use plastics used across the campus and their sources);
- Mentoring on devising an intervention strategy and action plan.
Stage 3: Implementation of individual action plans
- 3-month campaign to reduce consumption of single-use plastics
After the campaign implementation:
- Certificates will be issued to pupils and teachers of 20 selected schools;
- 3 schools with the best campaign will be awarded special prizes
The idea of providing trainings and joint campaign planning is to encourage schools to discover and investigate their plastic footprint, find the sources of waste and try to reduce it by being creative in organizing different behavioural changing activities.
