On October 6, at 16:30, in Stamba Hotel, CENN with support from the German Government through GIZ and together with partner organisations: Prevent Waste Alliance, RARE, ProCredit Bank and Business Media Georgia, held an award ceremony of the Beat Plastic Pollution Contest. The aim of the contest was to encourage businesses and organisation to establish green policies in order to reduce the generation of plastic waste.
As part of the campaign, a series of trainings were conducted for the participant organisations and businesses on topics such as waste audit and developing waste minimisation strategies as well as implementing behaviour-change campaigns.
As a result of the competition, thousands of single-use plastic waste were through various initiatives. Each organisation and company implemented measures tailored to their specific context, and in most cases, consumption and procurement of single-use plastics were completely eliminated.
The participant companies and organisations are:
- Norwegian Embassy in Georgia;
- US Embassy in Georgia;
- Georgian Farmers Association;
- Sheraton Grand Tbilisi Metechi Palace;
- Silk Hospitality;
- Sachkhere Youth Center;
- National Democratic Institute (NDI);
- Bolt in Georgia;
- Peace Corps Georgia;
- APM Terminals Poti.
On 6 October, 3 winners were announced among participants who were awarded special prizes. The winners of the contest were:
- National Democratic Institute (NDI)
- Georgian Farmers Association
- Sheraton Grand Tbilisi Metechi Palace
In addition, the project partners, ProCredit Bank and Business Media Georgia, awarded special prizes to their companies of choice. These were:
- ProCredit Bank – Embassy of Norway in Georgia
- BMG – Silk Hospitality
