A group of young environmentalists in the Kakheti region have successfully implemented the “Kakheti Green Horizon” project. The initiative aimed to promote afforestation in the region and increase awareness among young people about climate change and sustainable development.
The project included the purchase of 200 seedlings, which were distributed to a school and a public kindergarten. Additionally, educational seminars and workshops were organized to educate approximately 150 young people about climate change and related topics.
The young initiatives laid the foundation for the project at the Climate Change thematic camp supported by CENN and the EU, and it was implemented immediately after the end of the camp.
Gurjaani Technopark, Sagarejo Pupil-Youth Center, Kistauri Village Public School, Ojio Village Public School, where information meetings were held, Arashenda Village Kindergarten, Patardzeuli Village Public School (seedling beneficiaries), companies “Jusk” and “Biblusi” were all actively involved in the implementation of the project together with the youth.
Through the project’s activities, two locations in Kakheti were transformed into green areas, with a total of up to 200 seedlings planted. The project also contributed to raising awareness among youth about climate change and sustainable development, providing them with intellectual competitions and distributing biodegradable bottles to all the participants and Biblusi vouchers to the winners.
The project participants aim to actively engage in activities related to climate change in the future: “We will connect our acquired knowledge and experience with the chosen professions in the future. We will also try to organize similar meetings every year in our regions and help young people as much as possible to make the green horizon of Kakheti bigger,” says Barbare Iaganashvili, one of the initiators of the project.
These youth initiatives are carried out within the framework of the “Georgian Climate Action Project”, supported by the European Union. The project is implemented by CENN in collaboration with the Kakheti Regional Development Fund (KRDF), Chiaturian Union (ACU), Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti Agrotourism Development Association (RLS-ADA), and Young Teachers’ Union (YPU).
