From 1-4 May 2018, CENN conducted meetings in Kvemo Kartli Municipalities (Dmanisi, Tetritskaro, Marneuli and Tsalka), where WASH councils were established through the participatory approach. The councils include local residents as well as other stakeholders. The meeting participants discussed and deliberated existing WASH problems and possible solutions.
During the meetings, hosted by respective municipalities, WASH councils and other participants were introduced to the WASH Technical Assessment in Kvemo Kartli, which was developed by CENN. A decision was made for WASH councils to work towards solving WASH-related problems through implementing small infrastructural projects, raising public awareness and advocating/lobbying their interests.
The meetings were organized by CENN within the framework of the following projects: “Georgia Community WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) Initiative” and “Water for the Poor.” Along with other activities, the projects plan to increase WASH Council capacities according to their needs. The main objectives of the projects are to promote health care and suitable living conditions for socially vulnerable communities, prevent discrimination, provide access to water, and establish WASH standards by engaging respective stakeholders.
The project, “Georgia Community WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) Initiative,” is implemented by CENN with support from Global Water Challenge and The Coca-Cola Foundation (TCCF).
The project, “Water for the Poor,” is implemented by CENN and financially supported by the EU.
